I began the year as a strong High School Art educator because of my prior experience teaching elementary school as an intern, a teacher of record, and a substitute teacher. By the end of my first year of Induction, I continue to reflect on my teaching to support learning and I continue to set professional goals for growth and development. I constantly collaborate with my wonderful Art Department colleagues. I’m part of the Silverado High School PBIS team with whom I meet monthly to identify ways to strengthen our school community. I continue to engage with my students to foster relationships that span the classroom and influence their time on our campus. I continue to demonstrate professional responsibility, integrity, and ethical conduct.
My opportunities for continuous improvement are classroom management in the form of developing and implementing supply and clean-up procedures for the classroom. In the Art room we are constantly moving around. I need to start early in the year to establish set procedures on how to access and store supplies while taking the greatest care of the tools which we provide to the students. This school year has already seen the introduction of group specific supply bins for each period as well as a specialty supply organizer where students may "check-out" special tools and return them at the end of class.
A powerful change has taken place this year in that I am happier overall. My enjoyment of the craft of teaching and nurturing my students had grown exponentially. The High School level has been a wonderful transition compared to Elementary School. The students and the dynamic of each class period have me looking forward to my interactions with each group throughout my day.
I am most proud of my students and the developmental growth they have shown over the course of the school year. I am excited for each one of them and their future endeavors, whether they choose to stay on the Art pathway, whether they are off to college or the military in the fall, or whether they simply can share a newfound appreciation for the Arts and the creative thinking skills they identified and mastered.
"OMG, this is fantastic!!!! So simple, yet creative and fun... and hits deeper levels of learning. Excellent!" Michael Lee, Assistant Principal
